Artist Spotlight
Meet Ray! Ray Rodriguez is an artist from Puerto Rico, from a small town called Santa Isabel. Growing up, he developed a habit of carrying a sketchbook with him so he could always draw, a habit that continues to this day.
After graduating high school he attended Pontifical Catholic University in Puerto Rico to study Fine Arts. Two years later, he decided to move to Ohio in the United States, where shortly thereafter he began his studies at Kent State University.
Ray was awarded the Vincent J. Stark Scholarship in Painting and Drawing in 2018, and went on to be selected by faculty to be critiqued by artists such as Philip Pearlstein, Danny Ferrel and Mernet Larsen. In 2019 Ray finally graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in studio Painting. Since then, he has had his own showing “Wanderer” in 2021 at Negative Space and has participated in collaborative shows like “Season of Self” 2022.
Ray has kept painting, drawing, and seeking out opportunities to create and display his art.

¡Conoce a Ray! Ray Rodriguez es un artista de Puerto Rico, de un pequeño pueblo llamado Santa Isabel. Al crecer, desarrolló el hábito de llevar consigo un cuaderno de bocetos para poder dibujar siempre, un hábito que continúa hasta el día de hoy.
Después de graduarse de la escuela secundaria asistió a la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico para estudiar Bellas Artes. Dos años más tarde, decidió mudarse a Ohio en los Estados Unidos, donde poco después comenzó sus estudios en la Universidad Estatal de Kent.
Ray recibió la Beca Vincent J. Stark en Pintura y Dibujo en 2018, y luego fue seleccionado por la facultad para ser criticado por artistas como Philip Pearlstein, Danny Ferrel y Mernet Larsen. En 2019, Ray finalmente se graduó con una Licenciatura en Bellas Artes con especialización en pintura de estudio. Desde entonces, ha tenido su propia presentación "Wanderer" en 2021 en Negative Space y ha participado en programas colaborativos como "Season of Self" 2022.
Ray ha seguido pintando, dibujando y buscando oportunidades para crear y exhibir su arte.
